What is Kininarunote?
Kininarunote is a personal notebook where the writer researches things they got curious about and writes up what they found — something read in a book, seen in the news, or heard from someone else. Most of the site is in Japanese and uses three parallel reading levels (aimed at different Japanese school grades). This English section is a small pilot: a handful of articles, translated and localized from the Japanese originals, written as a single natural version for a curious reader roughly 9–12 years old. How these translations are made
Each English article starts from an already-published, fact-checked Japanese article — the Japanese text is the source of truth. The writer does not add new facts, numbers, or examples that were not in the Japanese original; when a Japanese-specific reference needs a short explanation for readers elsewhere, that explanation is added and flagged as background, not treated as part of the original claim. Translation and localization work is done with the help of generative AI, then checked in two separate passes: one comparing the English text against the Japanese original for factual accuracy (numbers, dates, causation, units), and one checking that the English reads naturally and avoids culturally narrow assumptions. The writer makes the final call on what gets published.
Because this is a pilot, coverage is intentionally small, and it may not be linked from search engines or promoted yet. Each English article links back to its Japanese source, and a page will be marked for review if the Japanese original is later corrected.
